In the past couple of months I have been hearing a lot about Chat GPT and how it can do everything I could imagine. I used it a lot while planning my vacation to London over memorial day weekend! It is actually pretty cool and can suggest trip itineraries if you tell it how many days you have in a place and what you are interested in generally. People have told me it can generate programs. So yes, may be it can do everything I could imagine!

Question that then popped in my mind is, do we think it can replace a human in the area of Life or Career Coaching. Before we jump into that, if you are wondering “What is Coaching?”, then here’s what I believe: A coach is someone who will be on your side to help you navigate towards your goals, whether it is in your career or in your life. The coach listens to you and asks you thought provoking questions, never deciding for you but instead helping you find your answers, what’s right for you.

Can a Generative Artificial Intelligence be able to understand yet not intervene? Can it know when asking questions is not going to help and instead help you find out what a short term goal will make sense for you? At the same time, will we, humans, trust this intelligence with being our partner to determining the next steps of our lives? I very much doubt it. At least for the next 10 years I don’t foresee AI replacing the service that Coaches provide.
